Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care focuses on the restoration of joint function and providing support to the nervous system. Using non-invasive methods, we help our patients achieve optimal health without relying on surgical or pharmaceutical methods. Conservative care methods are used to diagnose and prevent disorders of the spine and joints, restoring range of motion and easing discomfort. As part of the care we provide, you’ll often receive lifestyle recommendations, fitness coaching, soft-tissue therapies, and nutritional advice.

What Concerns Can Be Treated With Chiropractic Care?

Our spine is an essential part of our health, providing support, flexibility, and resilience as we go about our regular activities. As our nerves’ primary pathway, there are a broad range of concerns that can be traced back to spinal and joint issues. Some of the more common concerns treated with chiropractic care include:

  • Low Back Pain – This is the most common reason patients come to see a chiropractor. Treatment of this condition focuses on spinal manipulation and is often more successful than seeking help from a family doctor.

  • Tension Headaches – Stress and spinal alignment problems resulting in pressure on nerves can often result in tension headaches.

  • Migraine Headaches – Often debilitating, these powerful headaches have been shown to be responsive to steady chiropractic treatment.

  • Whiplash – This injury frequently occurs as the result of auto accidents and results from the snapping motion made by the neck after a sudden stop. Neck pain and stiffness are common complaints, increasing when attempting to turn the head.

  • Sacroiliac Pain – This sacroiliac joint is located at the bottom of your spine with the region serving as a major pathway for nerves to the legs and organs of the lower abdomen. Often presenting as pain located in the back of the thigh or the buttocks, chiropractic care has been shown to help.

  • Shoulder Pain – Painful and stiff shoulders have been shown to benefit from regular chiropractic care as well, especially in cases of frozen shoulder syndrome.

  • Knee Pain – It may be surprising to learn that even your knees can benefit from chiropractic care. Misalignments in your spine can lead to pressure being applied to your legs unevenly, resulting in pain in the knees.

  • Neck Pain – Our neck is responsible for supporting our head throughout the day and can often become a source of pain.

The above conditions represent just a small selection of the conditions that chiropractic care has been shown to be effective in treating.

What Kind Of Treatment Can I Expect As Part of Chiropractic Care?

In general, your chiropractor will focus on forms of care that are non-invasive or only minimally invasive. During your treatment, you will most commonly undergo imaging, spinal or joint adjustments, and soft-tissue therapies. If these treatment methods aren’t fully effective, you may be referred out for co-management if prescription medication is needed to help deal with any lingering discomfort or to help prevent the advancement of your condition. In cases where conservative care and medication prove to be ineffective, the next step is usually a surgical approach in coordination with another specialist. In patients where a surgical approach is needed, chiropractic care can aid in the healing process by maintaining healthy motion in adjacent joints once the patient is cleared for physical therapy.
